Daily Unfold (“we”, “us”, or “the game”) is a free daily paper-folding puzzle game hosted at dailyunfold.com. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what choices you have. We aim to collect the minimum amount of data needed to run the game and keep it sustainable through advertising.

1. Information we collect

Daily Unfold does not require an account to play. Most of your progress is stored locally on your device using browser localStorage, which means it never leaves your device unless you explicitly share or submit something (for example, your nickname on the Expert leaderboard).

Specifically:

Game state (streaks, stars, puzzle completion, tutorial progress) — stored only in your browser’s localStorage.
Expert nickname and player ID — if you choose to compete on the Expert leaderboard, your nickname and a randomly generated player ID are sent to our server with your solve time so we can rank entries. The player ID is a UUID that is not linked to any identity unless you make it so.
Approximate country — when you submit an Expert leaderboard time, we also store a two-letter ISO country code derived from your IP address by our hosting provider. It is used solely to display a flag emoji next to your nickname on the leaderboard. We do not store your IP address itself.
Usage analytics — anonymous, aggregated events (e.g. puzzle started, puzzle completed, tutorial shown) via Google Analytics and a TikTok pixel. These services may set cookies.
Error and performance data — basic, non-identifying technical diagnostics (such as browser and device type) needed to keep the game working.

2. Cookies and tracking

Daily Unfold and the third-party services we use may set cookies or similar technologies. These are used for:

Keeping the game running (for example, remembering your progress).
Measuring anonymous usage so we can improve the game (Google Analytics, TikTok).
Serving advertisements through Google AdSense and Google H5 Games Ads, including personalized ads where permitted.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the game may not work as intended.

3. Advertising

Daily Unfold uses Google AdSense and Google H5 Games Ads to show ads so the game can remain free. Google and its partners may use cookies and device identifiers to serve personalized or non-personalized ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.

Users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland are shown a Google-certified consent message where required by law before personalized ads are served.

4. Third-party services

We use the following third parties:

Google Analytics — anonymous usage measurement.
Google AdSense / H5 Games Ads — advertising.
TikTok Pixel — campaign measurement for marketing.
Supabase — stores Expert leaderboard entries (nickname, player ID, solve time).
LemonSqueezy — payment processor for any optional purchases.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data it receives.

5. Children’s privacy

Daily Unfold is a general-audience puzzle game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

6. Your choices

You can clear your local game state at any time by clearing site data in your browser.
You can change or remove your Expert leaderboard nickname from within the game. Submitted entries from past days retain the nickname used at submission time.
You can disable personalized advertising via your Google Ads Settings.
You can opt out of analytics by using browser privacy features or extensions.

7. Data retention

Local game state remains on your device until you clear it. Expert leaderboard entries are retained indefinitely unless you request deletion. Analytics data is retained per Google’s default retention policies.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced in-game or via the site.
